The Family Line is not a “whatcha gotta do” guide to parenting. Please don’t look to us for advice on sleep schedules or how much your kid’s allowance should be. You’re a grown-up, and you can use Google like the rest of us to figure out how to put an infant to bed. Those are “how” questions. How do I install a car seat? How do I respond to my kid biting? How do I discipline a teenager for getting a speeding ticket? How? How? How? Believe us, there are PLENTY of answers to those questions floating around. Before you begin to search, we’ll save you some time: you will find impassioned answers across the parenting spectrum for any “how” question you ask. In the end, you will have to determine what is right for your family and your specific kid.
The bigger, more important questions to ask are “why” and “what” questions. You will not find answers to these via the internet. Why does my unique family exist? What is our family vision? What is my strategy for achieving that vision? Why do spend our time like we do? Why does my teenager want to be as far away from the house as possible? These “why” questions will shape your daily “how” and they are not small questions. If you just had a small panic attack and felt your brain begin to shut down as you read them–take heart. That is why we created The Family Line. It’s an electronic resource that strengthens families–mothers, fathers, children and the legacies they create together through practical actions. In other words, let’s take this one step at a time.
